International Museum Day 2020 : Message from ICOM Director-General, Peter Keller

On May 18th, museums all around the world will join ICOM to celebrate International Museum Day 2020, which reaches this year its 42nd anniversary.

With the theme ‘Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion‘, IMD 2020 aims at becoming a rallying point to both celebrate the different perspectives that make up the museum communities, and champion tools for identifying and overcoming bias in what they display and the stories they tell.

Following the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdowns, we decided to provisionally adapt the format and focus on digital activities. Alongside, please remember that you are welcome to later organize your on-site activities between November 14 and 16, 2020.

Please download, below this message, all the materials and tools that ICOM’s Communications Department has prepared for you, in order to promote your activities while helping us spread the message inherent to this year’s theme. We encourage you to prompt all museums in your countries to use these contents as well.

A happy and successful International Museum Day 2020 to you and the whole museums’ community!

Best wishes,

Dr. Peter Keller, Director-General
ICOM – International Council of Museums
