CELEBRATING 2400 YEARS OF STARI GRAD

6-11 September 2016

From 6 to 11 September 2016 Stari Grad will host a central celebration of its 2400th anniversary. The town was founded in 384 BC by Greeks from the Aegean island of Paros who named it Pharos (Φάρος) – today’s Stari Grad on the island of Hvar. Stari Grad Plain, a unique cultural landscape shaped through the millennia, in 2008 has been inscribed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List as the best preserved Greek land division on the Mediterranean.

In addition to the first Festival of the sea and sailors “Days in the Bay” (8 to 11 September 2016), which will be attended by more than 50 traditional and classic boats, for the duration of the celebration there will be a series of concerts, exhibitions, lectures as well as the conference on the topic of the anniversary of the foundation of Stari Grad and Stari Grad Plain (from 7 to 9 September 2016), and for the entire duration of the celebrations, on the town’s seafront, there will be a fair of local products.

We invite you to join us and together with us celebrate this great anniversary of the 2400 years of Stari Grad.
